Emergency Medical Technition

Emergency medical Technitions (EMT’s) provide and care for people through hard and unbearable circumstances, getting past the blood and guts to find the real life threatening problem is what they do. On an ambulance or in the fire service, having one’s EMT license opens doors to many different jobs. No matter where the job is there will be patient’s for EMT’s to treat in one way or another. An EMT license opens the door to many basic level jobs, knowing assessments well and strategies of treatment is what will get you a foot through the door.

Every call is a different scene with no call being the same as the next, it is a case by case job. Caring patients can injure can harm someone very easily or if there is a mentally usable patient they can harm the EMS provider. EMS is a “pre-hospital or out-of-hospital care”(Emergency Care). EMS has a wide variety of jobs, learning the basis skills is just the beginning. EMT’s are a big part of the medical field and it’s a huge field of opportunity for careers that are constantly growing and always  in need. Some of the many careers of this include: Coastguard, military, fire department, hospitals, ambulance, police departments, clinics, nursing homes and correction facilities. “Most EMTs and paramedics work full time. They are likely to do shift work that includes weekends, nights and holidays and even 24-hour shift schedules.

Sometimes EMTs must climb icy or muddy embankments or wade in water to reach victims whose vehicles have gone off the road. Although accident calls are frequent and require great skill, the majority of calls are medical emergencies not trauma-such as diabetic comas, seizures, and heart and breathing problems. “EMTs and paramedics experience a much larger than average number of work-related injuries or illnesses”(explore health careers). Also the job outlook “According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for EMTs and paramedics is expected to grow 23 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than most other careers”(explore health careers). The average salary for emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics is $31,020″(explore health careers). “Average EMT salaries for California are 7% higher than the average EMT salaries for the job postings nationwide”(Indeed). Also “Two major ambulance companies in Ukiah are Med Star (aka Ukiah Ambulance) and Vera Health.

This line of work bears a lot of stress and requires great patience and tolerance with people and all the different personalities you may have to deal with. In many places, EMTs provide the majority of out-of-hospital care. This job would satisfy me, I really enjoy to help people and the intense adrenalin rush within the job, no day is the same as the next. There are always new things to learn, not every one can expirence everything and know how to handle it.

Re-Evaluating Future plans

In my near future I see myself as an EMT, I have my EMT certificate that I obtained through Mendocino College but I still haven’t taken my test; i’m going to soon. Im still getting some schooling done as I would like to one day move up to be a Paramedic. My ideal job for the future would be a paramedic I love helping people and making things better. I work at Starbucks at the moment as a barista going on my fourth month now and staying busy. In five years I would like to see myself done with school, maybe still in Paramedic school but no more math and english. Living my life happily in a nice house with reliable cars. I want to move but i’m not sure where to at the moment, possibly up by Redding or down by Napa. I will still be with my amazing loving boyfriend and the be big sister I have bee for many years.

To get to my goals in five years I need to really focus on school, work and take my EMT test now. Also get a lot of experience with working on the ambulance and take some anatomy courses for my Paramedic. Right now my main concern is school and my EMT test. I feel that i’m still on the right track but I need to stay focused and work hard to reach them.

The Key to Language

The key to language by Helen Keller Talks about the amazing things the human body, even as a blind and deaf person can do. Keller as a blind and deaf person learns to talk due to a very patient understanding teacher named Miss Sullivan. She taught her that everything had a name in this world and Keller was very eager to learn them with time. Despite being handicapped, she later graduated from Radcliffe college and became a world famous scholar. Although for her it was harder and took longer than most kids to learn she still was able to set herself up for success. She is a woman that despite everything mother nature threw at her she overcame and accomplished many things along the way. Today the world can be very harsh, hard to fit in and with disabilities like this it will only make it harder, people give up. Miss Sullivan didn’t give up on Keller she knew there was something special from the beginning and without her patience she would not be where she is today. Keller is an idol people look upon with language, anything is possible if you put your heart into it.
